Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land. Proverbs 25:25 NIV
Our team met this grandfather of nine while on a Water for LIFE exploratory mission in Southeast Asia. He was clearly proud of his heritage and offspring, a reminder of Proverbs 17:6, Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged … (NLT).
“Grandfather Von” loves his grandchildren and proudly introduced them one by one to our team. But after naming only a few, Von’s joy turned to tears, and he began to weep.
Through his tears Von said, “I’m crying because my heart hurts when I look at them and remember my daughter and grandson.”
As a father, he buried his own daughter years ago, and more recently he had to bury one of his grandsons. He told our team, “I’m scared that the water that killed my daughter will take the life of yet another of my grandchildren!”
A painful fact of life among many the world’s poor is that death lurks in their daily water. It’s a curse, a heavy burden they bear generation after generation.
Unless a clean water supply is made available, this cycle of death will continue uninterrupted. That’s why Water for LIFE is so important – because even one death in the family is too many.
In recent months, thanks to donations from LIFE’s friends, a Water for LIFE team was able to come to his village in Southeast Asia and drill a new well. Today, the fear among Von’s children, as well as other families in the village, has been replaced with joy and hope for a better future for all!
Water for LIFE is on track to help provide 400 more water wells in 2017, which means the total number of wells drilled and established since 2000 will reach over 5800 by year’s end!
Simply put, clean water is the first building block for a better life!
